چکیده

T H E recent development of techniques originally devised by Waddington (1932) for the maintenance of the explanted chick embryo (Spratt, 1947; New, 1955; Wolff & Simon, 1955) has opened the possibility of determining quantitatively some parameters of the developmental processes occurring in embryonic tissues under these conditions. As a result of such measurements, protein accumulation in explanted embryos was found to be much smaller than in embryos developing in the egg. On the other hand, the progress of somite formation was found to take place at similar rates in embryos developing as explants or in situ (Herrmann & Schultz, 1958). The slow rate of protein accumulation in the explanted embryos made it seem desirable to investigate whether under some other conditions of explantation protein accumulation would approach more closely the rate of protein formation observed in the naturally developing embryo. By varying the concentrations of the egg extract used as nutrient medium, and by enlarging the area of the extraembryonic membranes explanted with the embryo, a considerable increase in protein formation could be achieved. The data bearing out these results are described in this paper.

Dissociated ciliary ganglion neurons in vitro: survival and synapse formation.

Normally, about half of the ciliary ganglion neurons in 8-day-old chick embryos die before day 14 in ovo. However, when dissociated ciliary ganglion neurons were prepared from either 8- or 14-day-old embryos and grown in cell culture with skeletal myotubes, essentially all of the neurons survived for at least 3 weeks. Many of the neurons formed functional synapses on myotubes under these condit...

The Role of Caspase 9 during Programmed Cell Death in Ciliary Ganglia of Chick Embryos

During programmed cell death (PCD) apoptosis is controlled by many factors such as proteases. With no specific protease (s) known during PCD in the developing nervous system so far, we sought to determine if any specific protease (s) is involved in this process and therefore used different protease inhibitors during PCD (from embryonic day 6 to 10) in chick embryos. Among the inhibitors commerc...

The distribution of endocrine cell progenitors in the gut of chick embryos.

The aim of this experiment was to find out whether or not, at early stages of development, progenitors of the various types of gut endocrine cells are localized to one or more specific regions of the gastrointestinal tract. Transverse strips of blastoderm two to four somites in length were excised between the levels of somites 5 and 27 in chick embryos at 5- to 24-somite stages and were culture...

The effect of 3-acetylpyridine on the explanted chick embryo.

A structural analogue of nicotinic acid, 3-acetylpyridine, has been shown to produce morphological and physiological abnormalities in a variety of organisms. The effect of 3-acetylpyridine (AP) on chick embryos has been studied by several investigators using the technique of yolk-sac injection (Ackermann & Taylor, 1948; Zwilling & DeBell, 1950; Landauer, 1957; Herrmann, Clark & Landauer, 1963)....

Introduction: Angiogenesis is the formation of new vessels from early vessels that has effected in pathologic condition such as growing tumor, metastases, arthritis rheumatoid, diabetes and physiologic condition such as developmental and growing of organ regeneration, wound healing, and reproduction. Otostegia presica is a member of Laminacea family, has antioxidant and anti-apoptosis propertie...
